I don’t usually get this emotional, but I saw this really heart-wrenching story in The New York Times today and thought I needed to share. Due to massive structural problems to their beautiful church in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn (estimated to cost $20 million to repair), a small group of devoted nuns are being forced to leave their beloved home.
For the past 146 years the “Walking Sisters” sheltered the homeless, taught the illiterate, and even raised orphans while also ministering throughout the community. Now they will be scattered to other homes and nursing facilities throughout the area.
Selling the convent could help raise a great deal of money for their mission, but because the building is not a registered landmark developers could come in and tear it down. Boooooo. Too bad no one helped them, instead of those financial morons AIG.
