Unemployment Protection: What Do You Get in Other Countries?

CNN has this cool interactive feature where you click on a country and a video pops up with a correspondent describing the type of unemployment benefits people without work get in that country.  Basically, everywhere sucks, with the exception of Cuba, France and Japan.  Which leads me to think, how can we solve this?

Being an American, I know how bad it is here.  Since I was a freelancer who was let go, I don’t even qualify for unemployment benefits.  Basically, if I didn’t have any friends or family, I’d be homeless.  Even if I did qualify for unemployment benefits, it would be barely enough to pay my rent.  And get this — the last time I did have unemployment, I didn’t even qualify for Medicaid, but my friend who was living comfortably  off of family money was able to.

Is that fair? I naively thought that many countries have it better than in the States, but I suppose it’s mainly Europe, where most governments provide ample social support to their citizens.  So guys, what will it take? Shall we revolt? Get mad? Peaceful protest?
